
Short Rows & Shaping Techniques
Have you ever considered knitting the Papillon shawl? Is that boxy sweater, which isn’t supposed to be boxy, bringing you down? Short rows are essential for creating beautiful, eye-catching designs and shaping that fits and flatters. In this workshop, you will master three short-row techniques: Wrap & Turn, German short rows, and Japanese short rows. Discover how to use these techniques to make yoke shaping, sock heels, bust darts, and short-row designs a breeze.
Instructor: Ruth Santos
1 meeting – 3 hours long
Supplies: Three sets of 10g of light-colored stash yarn and needles sized to match yarn gauge. Try to bring at least two different yarn gauges, e.g. Fingering/Sock & DK or Worsted. Stitch markers, including lightbulb or clip markers. Notepad for notes. (stitch markers can be purchased in-store if needed).
Skills Required: Basic knitting skills are required, know how to knit and purl.
Skills Learned: Students will learn new shaping techniques using short rows.
Homework: Cast on three swatches and keep them on the needles.
For each: Swatch 1 and 2: cast on 25 stitches.
Swatch 3: cast on 30 stitches.
Knit three rows on each swatch.
Class Size: 10 students maximum, 3 students minimum. If the 3 student minimum is not met, Needles in the Haymarket can either refund the class or move the student to a class scheduled at a later date.
