Brioche, worked in two colors, creates a squishy, stretchy, reversible fabric similar to a ribbing, but with a flair! Your color choice can make this cowl playful and bold, sophisticated, or soft and romantic. There are so many fun options for this technique and countless patterns are using this stitch. This cowl will teach you the basic brioche stitch and add flair to your wardrobe.

This class is taught over two meetings.  First class will get you started learning the brioche stitch and the second class will be available for any questions, discussions of any issues encountered and ensuring you are comfortable with brioche.

Instructor: Marlene Graves

2 - Two hour sessions

Supplies: 2 - 60 to 100 g skeins (1 main color, MC, and 1 contrast color, CC) worsted or DK weight yarn, US 6 (4.00 mm) 24" circular needles and US 8 (5.00 mm) 24" circular needle.

Skills Required:  Cast on and join work in the round. Ability to Knit and Purl in the round. Ability to Slip Stitch and Yarn Over.

Skills Learned: Basic Brioche Stitch (BRK and BRP). How to read your brioche stitch.  A demonstration on how to "fix" a brioche stitch will be given.

Homework:  Using your favorite stretchy cast on, (I prefer the long tail cast on method) cast on 116 stitches using main color (MC). Place a marker and join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Knit 5 rounds. Change to size 6 needles and knit 1 round. You are now ready for class.

Class Size: 5 students maximum, 2 students minimum.  If the 2 student minimum is not met, Needles in the Haymarket can either refund the class or move the student to a class scheduled at a later date.
