Let’s continue Summer Sock School by knitting a shortie sock!  We’ll construct these socks toe-up and use fingering weight yarn for a light-weight, super cute sock. Strategically placed ribbing (and an option to add elastic at the cuff) will ensure a really great fit.

Instructor:  Linda Shields

4 two-hour sessions

Homework: choose fingering weight sock yarn and appropriate needle to obtain a gauge of 9 sts/ 1” in stockinette worked in the round. I’ll be using Regia Cotton Color Summer Breeze. I get 9 sts/1” gauge using a US 1 (2.25mm) needle. I prefer 32” for magic loop.

Supplies:  sock yarn and needle discussed above, tapestry needle, scissors, and locking stitch markers. I chose 2 colors of the Regia yarn mentioned above so I can have a contrasting toe and heel color. This is optional, but having a contrasting heel color (cc) will help close up any holes at the corners of the heels by using the cc ends for “surgery”.

Skills Required: basic sock knitting skills; this isn’t a beginner sock knitting class. Students should know how to knit in the round using magic loop and understand basic sock construction.

Skills learned: Turkish cast on, creating a heel flap and gusset in a toe-up direction, use of different ribbings for better fit, how and where to add elastic to a cuff, tubular bind off.

Class Size: 4 students maximum, 2 students minimum.

This class is "mask optional".
