Instructor: Kenny Lawrence
Two 2-hour sessions:
Saturdays, March 11th and 18th (10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)
Supplies Required:
Approximately 60 g each of two contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn suitable for a cowl (soft enough to be worn around the neck. Solid or tonal colors are preferred to better see your stitches, but if you would like to use a variegated, be sure it is light enough you can see and read your stitches. Also, one 24” US 7 or US 8 circular needle. (Loose or average knitters should plan on using a US 7, tight knitters should plan to use a US 8. If you are unsure, do your homework on the US 8 and bring both US 7 and US 8 to class.) Also, 1 stitch marker, and pen and paper for notes and keeping row counts.
Skills Required:
Students must be proficient in: casting on, joining to work in the round, working in the round, knit, purl, yarn over, slipping stitches, and binding off.
Skills Learned:
Students will learn to join a second color of yarn to their work, brioche knit (BRK), brioche purl (BRP), and how to read their brioche fabric.
Homework:
Purchase, or find in your stash, your two colors for the project. Select which color will be your Color A and which color will be your Color B (Color A will be the more prominent color in the class sample, so select whichever color you want to be more obvious as your Color A). In Color A, cast-on 110 stitches, place a marker for your beginning of round, join for working in the round making sure not to twist your cast-on, then knit all the stitches in the first round. Bring your work to this point in for the first class.
